Elon Musk took the futuristic gesture interface from Iron Man and made it real (video)

Elon Musk has posted a video showing off Space X’s custom Iron Man-inspired interface for using hand gestures in the air to design rockets.

Musk revealed to Iron Man director Jon Favreau on Twitter last month that the Space X team had seen the interface in the movie and decided to build it in real life.

The system uses the Leap Motion controller to track hand gestures. Implementations of the system include a version using 3D glasses, a free-standing glass projection (as seen in Iron Man) and the Oculus Rift headset for the full virtual reality experience. To top it all off, the team then printed the part in titanium using a 3D laser metal printer.

Biggest Panorama Photo Ever Captured

A panorama is any wide-angle view or representation of a physical space, whether in painting, drawing, photography, film/video, or a three-dimensional model.

A panoramic view is also proposed for multi-media, cross-scale applications to outline overview (from a distance) along and across repositories. This so called a cognitive panorama is a panoramic view over and a combination of cognitive spaces.

Nowadays Panorama Photography becomes Popular because of the significant rate of Smartphone users. 

Panorama photos is a new way of taking photos, which appear much wider and captures more area than normal photos. Starting from Android devices, Panorama feature made its’ entry to other smartphones, cameras, and even a Panorama ball which captures 360 Panorama photos named Squito.

How Panorama works is it captures different parts of the area separately while you move your phone/camera and stitches them together intelligently to make it one big photo. These are wide photos and have more resolution than ordinary photos we see in everyday life.

 Now, Here it is the biggest ever made Panorama photo. This is not just the biggest panorama photo captured ever, this is also the 2nd biggest photo. This is a 600,000 pixels wide 360 degree panorama captured in Tokyo.

The interesting thing is, even Photoshop can’t handle this panorama as the maximum resolution Photoshop supports is 300,000 pixels and this panorama is its double. The photo is captured using Canon 7D with 400mm f/5.6L lens and the camera was kept there for 12 hours to stitch the photos it captured.

All in all, here are some mind-blowing stats. There were 10,000 photos captured and stitched together by a 12 core Fujitsu Celsius R920 workstation which needed around 192GB of RAM to make the photo load. It took 12 weeks of processing for the final upload by Jeffrey Martin.

Sony has been toying with its personal 3D viewer concept for some time but things are about to get serious. 

Last year, Sony brought the HMZ-T2 to IFA and tried to convince us to wear a 3D display helmet; at IFA 2013, the company is hoping that cutting the cord with the new HMZ-T3W will persuade us to open our wallets. 

As before, the concept is straightforward: two small OLED screens that give the impression of a much larger display, optional 3D, and the privacy of your own virtual screening room. This time around, however, at least one of the cords has disappeared, though it’s not quite the wireless nirvana Sony might like you to believe.

The resolution of each OLED panel hasn’t changed, and so you still get 720p 1280 x 720. However, Sony has tweaked both the software that drives them and the lenses in front of them, and so the overall quality is said to have increased. We couldn’t test old versus new side-by-side, but the colors and brightness looked good from the smartphone source plugged in.

Smartphone support is new - do this and you'll find yourself viewing a very inflated version of your phone screen in real time. It's interesting that Sony is pushing this for gaming too as recent rumours suggest that a dedicatedPS4 version is on the horizon.

So how best to describe the experience? It's pretty much the equivalent of sitting in your own private cinema. The viewer replicates a 750-inch TV screen from 20m away - a 1280x720 OLED display for each eye - that can play in either 2D or 3D.

However unlike the Oculus, the display is fixed. Move your head around and the big screen will follow your eyeline meaning you can watch with your head at any angle.

On the underside of the goggles are two sliders for optical adjustment, a four-way menu button and two volume buttons. The headset also comes packed with a pair of MDR-XB90 headphones that create 7.1 surround sound.

LG's 77-inch Ultra HD curved OLED TV is the biggest, with the most buzzwords

The never ending battle between Korean manufacturers Samsung and LG has moved to its inevitable next level, as LG has introduced an even larger super high-res OLED than its competitor's 55-inch models. The new high water mark is this 77-inch Ultra HD curved OLED it's showing off at IFA 2013, which is a step up in pretty much every way possible and even makes us recall the LCD size wars of the mid '00s. Whether or not we asked for it, it's bringing new display technology, a rare shape and of course, that truly outstanding size. It's only a concept now, but so was the $15,000 55-inch version at one point so we'd suggest keeping your black card handy.

LG's says its 77-inch Ultra HD curved OLED TV is the largest of its kind. The television was unveiled at the ongoing IFA consumer electronics and appliance trade show in Berlin.

LG had launched a 55-inch curved OLED TV eight months ago at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

The TV has a 4K Ultra HD resolution that had four times the pixels than 1080p HD

Panasonic's 20-inch 4K Toughpad tablet 

Panasonic's 4K Toughpad tablet initially debuted at CES in January, but here at IFA in Berlin, the company is finally ready to shed some light on availability. Speaking at a press conference focused on the device, GM Jan Kampfer detailed the giant slate, which includes a fiberglass housing and sports a 3,840 x 2,560 (230 ppi) power-efficient IPS display with 176-degree viewing angles. The UT-MB5 supports 10-finger touch and includes a Bluetooth-enabled optical Anoto Live Pen with a six-hour battery life and palm rejection. The Toughpad was designed with creative types in mind, such as artists and architects -- though we wouldn't mind having one around as a fantastic (albeit pricey) portable 4K movie viewer.

There will be two models: a Standard flavor that weighs in 2.3kg and includes 4GB (expandable to 8GB) of RAM and a 128GB SSD, and a 2.7kg Performance model with 8GB RAM (expandable to 16GB) and a 256GB SSD. The company is targeting design pros with that latter version, such as those working with 3D modeling tools, while the lower-powered spec would be a better fit for healthcare users, retail or sales professionals. Panasonic aimed for workstation performance here, so both devices include Intel Core i5 processors and run on Windows 8.1. There are three USB 3.0 ports, HDMI out, an SD card slot and an optional desktop cradle and mounting point adapter. They're also quite durable, and are reinforced to survive 76 cm (2.5 ft) drops. The Standard model will ship in November, while the Performance slate is expected in early 2014.

 Microsoft is reporting that the device will ship in the US and Europe beginning this Saturday, September 7th, but Panasonic executives at the IFA event are confirming a November timeframe. The Toughpad on stage is being described as a "prototype," further reinforcing that the slate is not ready to ship.

 Panasonic reps quoted pricing for the standard version at €4,508 (about $6,000), with the Performance version MSRP to be announced. The optional pen will retail for €280 (about $370).

Yahoo! debuts new logo with a sleeker design

After showing off one new version of its logo every day for the past 30 days, Yahoo! has now debuted its actual new corporate logo. It's the first redesign in 18 years for the company that helped to popularize searching for things on the Internet.

... and hello, new logo!

Creating a new logo that's being made to replace something as well known as Yahoo's original design is no easy task. Indeed, Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer posted this morning on her personal Tumblr page that she helped to create the new logo in a weekend session earlier this summer with the company's logo team

Mayer wrote that she and her team decided not to put any straight lines in the new logo, while also adopting a sans serif font that slims down the letters compared to the original. There are also no lower case letters in the new Yahoo! logo. The exclamation point was tilted nine degrees which Mayer says gives the logo "a bit of whimsy."

The logo's specific color name is Pantone Violet C, according to Mayer. She added, "For the texture, we came up with the nice idea of creating a chiseled triangular depth to the logo - this causes the letter Y to appear in the shading at the ends of each of the letters."

IFA 2013: Samsung overview

Samsung had its own much hyped devices leading up to IFA and led its show by unpacking the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

The textured, leathery backed handset packs the latest version of Android,Android 4.3 and a 5.7-inch Full HD Super AMOLED screen plus the S-pen, the key to unlocking and manipulating your Note.

The Galaxy Note 3 will be rolling out September 25.

The Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch was also a big deal in a small package

 .

It seems sleek, and feature filled with apps plus a 1.9MP camera that snaps pics and records Full HD vids and different non-interchangeable strap colors.

The Galaxy Gear Smartwatch will be available in stores on September 25 in more than 100 countries, however, the U.S. and Japan have to wait until October to get their hands on the new device.

Pricing for the new device has come in at £299/$299 for the U.K. and U.S.

Samsung also revealed a new tablet in the form of the 10-inch Samsung Galaxy 10.1 2014 Edition.

The new Galaxy 10.1 has a WQXGA LCD screen with a resolution of 2560 x 1600. There will be three connectivity options: Wi-Fi only, Wi-Fi plus 3G and Wi-Fi with LTE.

There are three storage options too - 16GB, 32GB and 64GB - plus microSD support.

IFA 2013: all the latest news : Asus

Asus announced the new Transformer Pad with Tegra 4.

The 10.1-inch Android tablet has been revamped with a 1.9GHz Nvidia Tegra 4 quad-core processor, along with a 2560x1600 IPS display.

The new pad is also touted to last at least two days between charges thanks to a supposed 17-hour battery life.

But that's not all from Asus. In fact, the company has plans to release a bunch more tech soon.

The X102BA, an Ultraportable laptop that sports a 10.1-inch HD display with 10-point multi-touch for navigating Windows 8 has been unveiled as 

 well.

Inside is an AMD A4-1200 1GHz dual-core APU with integrated Radeon HD 8180 graphics, which the company claims "balances multi-tasking performance with energy efficiency."

A refresh of the Fonepad was also announced - with a new glossy rear cover and extra speaker on the front, and dubbed it the Fonepad 7. The tablet comes with a 7-inch HD 1280 x 800 display and offers voice calling and 42Mbit/s download speeds. It's also powered by an Intel Atom Z2560 processor.

But wait there's another: The 6-inch Android tablet, Fonepad Note 6. It comes packed with a Full HD Super IPS+ display with both multi-touch and stylus inputs. It's also powered by the new Intel Atom Z2580 processor clocked at 2Ghz. Meanwhile there's HSPA+ and 3G to keep you connected.

And last but not least, Asus also announced the Memo Pad 8 and Memo Pad 10. While different in size, both Android tablets offer 1280x800 resolution displays and quad-core processors.

The Memo Pad 8 comes in an 8GB model with a 5MP rear camera and 1.2MP front-facing snapper. The 10, meanwhile, comes in 8GB and 10GB versions and has a 10-inch display.

Even more refreshes are on the way from Asus with the Zenbook getting a powerful upgrade.

The new Zenbook models are known as the UX301 and UX302 and all have new latest-generation Haswell Intel processors, beefed-up graphics and a high resolution WQHD display on certain versions.

They also have the latest-gen Intel Core processors from the Core i5-4200U up to a high-end 28W Core i7-4558U option. And to power that high-end screen, you either get Intel Iris or Nvidia GeForce GT 730M with Optimus auto-switching graphics.

IFA 2013 has kicked off in Berlin with tech, tech and more tech.A few rumored phones (and a watch) are rumors no more, and of course there are tablets, TV's and laptops galore.

Sony at IFA 2013

The long awaited Sony flagship, the Sony Xperia Z1(formerly the Honami and Xperia i1) was announced and shown off at IFA.

The much hyped "best of Sony" definitely hit high marks with this new Xperia.

It's an impressive phone that packs so much technology inside you can't help but enjoy all the treats on offer - and it's well packaged in a way that makes us love to try all the different features.

The Sony Xperia Z1 release date is now set for some time in September 2013, with pricing to be confirmed in the near future.

Aside from the water and dust proof Xperia Z1, Sony also announced the arrival of three new Vaio laptops.

First off is the crisp and clean looking Vaio Tap 11. Packed with Windows 8 and apparently meant to compete with the Microsoft Surface Pro, this machine has a Full HD display, stylus and the Pro-esque kickstand.

This 11.6-inch slimline tablet with keyboard is slated for an October 2013 release.

The second of the trio is a hybrid device, called the Vaio Fit. Coming in three different sizes, the Vaio Fit is actually a trio itself boasting 13.3-inch, 14-inch and 15.5 inch screens respectively

The Vaio Fit also comes out autumn 2013.

Lastly, Sony is upgrading its Vaio Tap 20 to the Vaio Tap 21 by making it bigger and providing an aluminum finish. It might not be a complete replacement but the Tap 21 will feature a 21.5-inch Full HD display with better resolution and the latest Haswell processors.
